First Color Ever

Seriously. Forget all the improvements and changes it needs, I'm just excited about how not terrible it is for my first coloring job ever in photoshop. This overall was a very cool and fulfilling assignment and something I look forward to doing in the future. Forgot to time this unfortunately. Spent roughly 5 hours I would say. So much more was spent on the inking than the actual coloring.

Thumbelina...oh and Primitives Too

This week we had to do sihlouettes of a fairytale character. I had no idea who to pick and was thinking of just doing "evil queen" cuz it was easy, but a friend of mine suggested Thumbelina and I accepted because of how challenging it would be. Turns out, I might have bitten off more than I could chew with her, I overestimated myself when it came down to time management and the techniques of making these. Originally they had no grey, just black, and now I think there's too much grey but whatever! I am proud of my designs not so proud of how it turned out. Spent at least 4 Hours when combined with the shading.

We did this to get practice with primitive shape shading in photoshop but I kinda botched it. First the layers weren't totally accurate. Second my one sweep approach did not help. Third. I did not erase and try again enough to get the best results. I was trying to see how I would progress in the exercise without erasing and this is what happened. Spent about 1 hour once I got the layers somewhat correct.

I've Got My Eyes On You

Yeah the whole class sucks at making eyes with soul. So we had to do 20 sets that were different. They took forever because I have hardly ever used a tablet before. The only good thing is that erasing is easy. Overall I spent about 6.5 hours on it. Too long considering the quality I think.

Thumbnails

I guess we were supposed to redo our midterm thumbnails in digital values, but the homework I saw said to do new ones so that's what I did. I know they could use some more work, but overall I like them and am impressed with myself as before this assignment I had no experience whatsoever in creating art like this through photoshop.

Sleuth Week

We returned to the genre thing in character viz this week, and did some mystery/detective/crime stuff. Here's my set of ten images for that. I like how I did most of these. That is the best car I have ever drawn in my life. I like the guy at the top too because I did better than I thought I would however his eyes are jacked up, too large I say, but hey it was good practice.

Character Viz Midterms

There was a lot more to this project. Mostly like 300 supporting sketches but it'd be too much of a bother to upload them. So these are just the three final versions placed on the provided template with a selection of supporting sketches. I really liked my character concepts but unfortunately only the main character does the concept justice for me. The other two fall short. But I couldn't spend as much time on them as I did the main character, time was running out.

2D Art Midterms!

We had to pick eight images to refine even further and then put them in a fancy template. I'd say I managed to make some fairly decent improvements. Not gonna lie, I did rush a bit.

2D Art Midterm Pre-Final Version

We had to color the thumbnails again. So I did. They were better than the first run through.

Character Viz Silhouettes

So during my midterm weeks I have neglected to upload assignments to the blog. Here's a second set of silhouettes we did. I know I did better on these than on the others. But I still have a problem with head size!
