Colored Thumbnails

I don't think I did so great on these, but I think the fault lies more with my poor orginal images. I still felt that progress was made from the first to last. Kinda wish I got a redo on this whole assignment because I could do it much better now.

Figures and Silhouettes

Well I definitely have a problem with proportion. For some reason I guess I think it's okay to have them all outta whack because the ball figures and silhouettes are more primitive and can be more cartoony. I think I'm getting better though. The figure drawing we did that week helped a lot.

Environment Thumbnails

These first three were of a closet of a character of mine.

The three above are a city from a story I wrote.

These three were of a tunnel entrance from the same story.

This set of three was of some ruins.

The last three are a of a bamboo forest.
I feel like I did so-so with these. I don't think I did them correctly either. It seems like we were supposed to do these in the same way we did the ice castle exercise, but I did them more like the second class exercise and made them more specific and sometimes without objects to show scale. I still like most of them though.

Character Viz Class Five

Ball figures that have been drawn over with marker. This is the only page I have from that class because these bled through on to the other page covering almost all the other ball and stick figures. Oh well.

Final Viking Hampis

So yes. This is the final version for this assignment. It would have been nice to know beforehand that we were not supposed to make the whole scene. I would have much rather just focused on the character. Now I know better for next time. Here is the character brief for him.

Genre: Myth/Fairytale
Style: Cartoon
Setting: Celtic Ireland
Good/Evil: Evil
Gender: Male
Category: Human
Name/Age: Hampis/50
Archetype: Viking
Occupation: Goatherder
Personality/Appearance: Quiet; Hardworking; Fat; Tiny feet
Likes/Dislikes: Likes Roasted Lamb; Dislikes Boats
Attire: Helmet, Two Eyepatches (in final he's using two on the same eye), Furry Chainmail
Props/Weapons: Broken Hammer

The Hampis? Concept

Page one concept. Helmets and boats and such.

Page two. More goats. Also hammers.
I wanted to make it look like he had just smashed the deck of a ship but it wasn't working well.

Page 3. Hammers, heads, clothes, and limbs.

Page 4. More heads, also bodies, and a limb or two.
I was trying to see how I could incorporate the second eye patch.
I tried putting one on each side but couldn't work how they would attatch to his head.
Tried putting it on his mouth to symbolize his quietness, but it looked like a gag.

Page five. Some bodies and a face plus laying out the scene.
Went with the second eyepatch on his arm, like a just in case.

It's Action/Adventure Time! (Character Viz)

First page of my action/adventure thumbnails.
These were hard to think of. This is a very broad topic.
Fun Fact: The girl in the hat is one of my midterm ideas.

Broke the second page into two parts. There was some 2D art stuff in the middle of the page.
The sign in #12 says "Adventure" by the way.

The second half of the page. Went pretty ninja toward the end.
Fun Fact #2: The ball isn't counted. Unconsciously copied Gogo's weapon from Kill Bill.

2D Art Class - Week 3

The finalish version of the environment thumbnail exercise.
Ran out of time and didn't get to fully render it.
I think my scene was a trap.

After looking at all the castles, is a more detailed thumbnail, tainted by marker bleeds.
Also on the page is the class exercise with the random scene. Unfortunately, you can't really see it because of my Character Viz homework on the back bleeding through.

So yeah...we had to make icy bendy castles or whatever.
Here's my attempt.

2D Art Week 2 Assignments (Part 2)

We had five minutes to do movie still thumbnails. 10 for each movie.
This is page one movie one. Beauty and the Beast.

Page two movie one. I will not lie,
I spent more than five minutes on most of these.

Last two of movie one and first two of movie two. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

Page two movie two. These I actually tried finishing in five minutes.
Note the change in quality hahaha.

Page three movie two.
Live action movies are much harder to do this for than with animated ones.

We were told to put frames around them but the ones I made in marker were too ugly. So I added better ones in photoshop and cropped them to make them more like strips than pages. It would have been a better idea if all my boxes were the same size and shape. Grrrrr, oh well I tried.

2D Art Week 2 Assignments (Part 1)

Object thumbnails. Some of these were of objects I had already drawn, but
I wanted to see if I made any progress so far. I think I have.
Fitting them on one page is proof enough of that.

Exercise from the rapid viz book. I don't even...some of these were just too confusing.

2D Art Again

Cone and cylinder perspective practice.
Ellipses are hard!
Second Open Draw

Messing up the posts a little here. Posted week 2 homework for character viz ahead of this. It should be the other way around.
